So I was just brushing up on the NDA before I made a post here, looks like we are not supposed to really talk about specifics outside of the beta forums. Kinda a bummer because I wanted to run down a list of things ppl like and dislike.

This game confuses me. The list of stuff I don't care for is long and mostly related to core ideas to how the game works (aka not going to be "fixed" when its out of beta), however if the game servers were up right now I'd be in game as soon as I woke up.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on which parts you don't care for.

I dislike the armory system (the relationship between classes and jobs is needlessly confusing, and seems like a legacy of the broken 1.0 game), but everything else I really like. The gameplay in the beta has been pretty easy, but I haven't done any of the dungeons yet, so I'm hoping that's where the challenge lies. Nothing in the game is very innovative compared to other MMOs, but I don't really care about that. I just want a game that's fun, and this seems to have potential to be fun.

Oh, and I hate the inventory UI. Just a complete pain to use.

ya the jobs is a pain... it really limits customization by doing the jobs like that.

I only played saturday so not sure what you mean about the armoury system/relationship care to elaborate?

made it to level 10 on ARC the abilties i have so far seem to have little to no synergy/reason to use anything other than heavy shot and the global cool down on abilities feels like wow but more annoying due to the slower refresh.

lnc can only use lances... gladiators can only use sword and shield... conj can only use staffs or wands same for thurmaturge, monk can only use h2h.

I was referring to the weird relationship between classes and jobs. For example, Monk and Pugilist overlap on 90% of their abilities. When you're a Pug, you can equip any ability from other jobs. When you're a Monk, you get some Monk-specific abilities, but you're limited on which abilities from other jobs you can equip. There is also Pug-specific and Monk-specific equipment, so you'll need to carry around two armor sets for each class/job combo.

It's unnecessarily over-complicated. I think they should have removed classes altogether and gone with a pure job system.

AH and ah... yeah none to fond of the thought that arc becomes Bard...

I always thought it was somewhat an interesting idea like an advanced class or something however, if that is the case they need to do away with the ability/equip restrictions, rather i can get there being gear that is monk only but not allowing a monk to wear pug gear...

Got to 14 this weekend and ran out of quests outside of main story line and class quest.

well got to 16 actually but ran out of quests at 14, also started botanist and wood working, like how botany works now for collecting items, not too fond of the crafting menu though also hope they add a method of mass crafting later on like advanced recopies for making base items like lumber.

So far i've not found much use for any ability on ARC outside of heavy shot and occ. on tougher mobs using the poison arrow (or w/e its called...) i hear lancer/glad have more synergy with their abilities but ARC so far leaves much to desire.

Also the base line GCD is kind of annoying but meh.

There's some sort of FFXIV event going on in Japan, and these are some (translated) comments made by the developers: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/103657-Comments-from-the-Devs?p=5695635&viewfull=1#post5695635

It also appears that Phase 3 of the beta will happen in early June, and the finished game will launch in "summer".

I had a character on Moogle and another on Mandragora, I think. They're wiping data after this phase, so we'll have to start again in Phase 3, where we can import our 1.0 character data.

So we are back Very Happy lets see after spending the last month or so playing ever random free to play mmo I could find I must say I severely underestimated how good 14 is vs anything else on the market. That is to say 14 is not amazing by far with its instance grinding and overly flashy wow combat, but it is a few steps ahead of anything else I played this month. I think that starting out with ff11 really set me up for not liking other mmos. nothing can stand up to the idle mmo(or any game type for that matter) I've built up in my mind.

anyway here's a look at my first hour as a monk, er pugilist just before the server went down.

Well got the client, but it appears the NA servers are down. Poo.

ETA: I've been enjoying Neverwinter actually. For a free game it's pretty and I like that when I heal people I lob a giant green fireball at their heads.
