Abstract from Blood Journal:
http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/cgi/content/abstract/blood-2010-09-309591v1

This may not be a universal cure...yet. This will probably lead us in the direction we need to go to cement a cure for everyone effected by HIV.

Hot damn. This is awesome.

Yeah, apparently he received a bone marrow transplant from someone who was resistant to the HIV virus. This is amazing if it's true, a seriously important day in medical history.

Now if only the US would get its head out of its ass when it comes to stem cell research...

And give up on our war against science? The one war we're actually winning? Noooooooooo!

There's also a nano-tech delivery mechanism being developed for curing some cancers that may or may not be approved. So far trials have been astonishingly positive, with melanoma being cured (yes, cured) in limited human trials.

Back to stem cell research, there has been some highly positive results in stem cell therapy aiding in the fight against diabetes. I've read of at least a handful of different tests resulting in reducing the effects of, or even curing, diabetes (type 1 as well as type 2, both of which are actually very different diseases).

In Colorado, stem cell therapy is already being used in a practice. It is not FDA approved and so they cannot cross state lines with their work, else they will fall under federal scrutiny. They've had extremely positive results in knee joint repair using stem cell therapy along with physical therapy.

It's too bad the war on science probably means we won't see any of this in the near future, at least not in this country.

This made me laugh. A lol irl as it were.

Ah, good old stem cell research controversy. It's one of those things people claim to be super-dee-duper morally against, yet would embrace in a heartbeat if it would save their own child/spouse/relative/friend, yet still chastise other people for supporting.

Actually, the problem is with Embrionic Stem Cells, right? Because there's one company in the US working on harvesting stem cells from the patient's own body.

The stigma associated with embryonic stem cell research has pretty much damned stem cell research in general.

In the US at least. Much better progress is being made with stem cell research in general overseas. This most recent thing, with the HIV patient, was done in Berlin, for example.

That's right, USA, stay ignorant and on the road to third world nation status!

I really need to figure out where to move to. My country is starting to make me grumpy on a regular basis.

So Doc, how's the weather where you're at? Very Happy

Lots of snow lately. Which is weird. The past 17-18 years we hadn't had snow on my birthday (3 Dec) but this year we had a great big bunch. And it stayed for a while. And the past few days got us some more snow that's stayed on the ground.

I got very sick a week ago, so I'm not too pleased with the snow right now. Sad

also, he lost half of his ability to speak and act as a normal person. his immune system has collapse three times and transplant wasn't successful the first try. the pain and the chronological harm to his body makes him consider suicide on a regular basis. When asked if it is worth it he said probably not.

We are still far away from curing this devil. sigh
