I finally had to give up on DDO because I couldn't get parties anymore, and couldn't do much on my own. The recent server merge didn't help things along. Very sad because I liked DDO quite a lot.

So a friend loaned me the WoW disks, and I'm currently a day into my 10 day trial. I'm on Exodar server currently leveling a Human Paladin. I also made a Tauren Druid and a Mage (GnomeI think) just to see. I briefly played an Undead Priest but found it just too gruesome, so I deleted it.

WoW sure is easy. ^.^ It took me about 5 minutes to get my Paladin to level 5, lol. I'm currently taking in the sights around Stormwind and working towards level 10. Plus, I like that I can play it on my Mac. I wasn't sure how I was going to like the graphics, given the screenshots I've seen, but it's actually prettier than I expected it to be. I don't know if I'll continue it past the trial or not, however. I figure I'll just see how it goes.

Edit on the top: I think Paladin is a great choice for you based on how you have WHM and BRD lv'ed in FF. Paladins have wickedly awesome buffs and are great healers, Shaman and Paladins are generally considered as the two best healers amongst my friends. If you ever do play horde go to The Underbog!

Here are some screenshots I have

Just browse through them, the ones up at the top are PvP

Yeah, Paladin seems definitely BRD-like so far, but not as squishy. Smile Druid is kind of fun, too. If I stick with it, I'll probably level both.

Oh snap! I just realized Exodar is in the same battlegroup as my server. If you pvp 10-19 tell me o_o I'll get on my warrior and fights you!

I have no interest, whatsoever, in PvP, and I can't see that changing at all.

Paladin and Druid would both be well-suited to your general playstyle. Hands-down best buffs in the game. Paladin can tank, heal, or be a semi-effective DPS class. At low levels, judge w/ Crusader and run Seal of Righteousness / Command to up your DPS. Two handers are going to be better for soloing, with sword & board (or other 1h weapon) if you're ever called upon to tank.

Oh, and as cool as a Balance Druid (Offensive caster - grows up to be a Moonkin) looks and plays, it's gimp as hell. Play a Feral Druid to level, and start building up a set of healing gear for group play. Bear is a hell of a tank, and Cat can do some significant damage.

Yeah, I'm liking Paladin a lot, I have to admit. I seem to be a pretty decent solo class, at least at low levels, and some of the buffs sure are nice. I learned Redemption last night when I hit level 12. Right now I'm weilding a two-handed mace which does pretty decent damage. I'm level 13 now, wearing loose chain mail. I don't have loads of money but I feel like my armor is gimpy, but I can't seem to find any better. Any suggestionis? Profession-wise, I'm leveling herbalism and alchemy.

Beefy's Ally Pally Starter Guide:

1) Go to Exodar. Sure, it's an obnoxious run, but it's worth it. Strip semi-naked and just run from graveyard to graveyard to avoid all loss. The route is Ironforge >>> Dun Morogh >>> Loch Modan >>> Wetlands >>> Boat (Auberdine) >>> Boat (Darnassus) >>> Boat (Azuremyst Isle). You're not going to get quest rewards similar to the quality of the rewards from the Draenei starter zones from any other area. When you're done with Azuremyst and Bloodmyst, head to Westfall and try to find a group for / escort through the Deadmines. By the time you're done, you should be well on your way to your low 20s and Redridge Mountains.

2) 2h weapons for solo play, DPS, or heal in a group, sword + board for tanking. Maces are almost tailor made for Paladins. For solo play, look for DPS and damage stats (+AR, + damage, STR, AGI) over all else. For tanking, look for +DEF, +STAM, + armor, +HP, etc. For heal gear, look for +heal, +dam/heal, +INT, and + spirit.

3) Professions, pre-40, are used to take money from the poor schmucks that buy your stuff. Gathering professions = free money machine. The materials required will always be higher level than the item created, and the stats on most crafted items make them second banana to instance drops. Leatherworking is the only gathering profession that doesn't monopolize minimap markers, so abuse this to your wallet's content. Mining / Smelting is a high payout, but finding good gems and ores can be a pain. Herbal is all about knowing what herbs sell and putting the time in to gather them all.

4) The AH is for selling to other idiots. Avoid it like the black plague, unless you're the one selling coffins. Buying items from the AH should be a last-ditch measure.

5) Take advantage of the secondary professions: cooking, fishing, and first aid. Cooking allows you to create medium-term buff items which double as HP/MP restoratives. Fishing is a good money-maker at higher levels, and can feed cooking in such a manner that you barely spend anything to level cooking. First aid allows for fast recovery in situations where taking a knee simply isn't an option. Avoid buying anything for these professions that you can get elsewhere within reason.

My mistake, I'm wearing Light Mail right now, with a slightly higher level pair of pants I got on a quest.

I will look at the maps to see if I can figure out how to get to where you're suggesting. I've been to Stormwind and Westfall, as well as a few other places on the other side of the forest (a tower and a lake). Right now I'm bumming around Sentinal Hill doing a few quests, killing stuff, and harvesting herbs I can safely get to without getting killed. Smile I just LOVE the American gothic look of Westfall.

Thanks for the advice. What server do you play on? I'm on Exodar right now.

When you hit up to around 17~19 try out the instance called "The Deadmines" I forgot the acronym for it, but it shouldn't be DM because that generally stands for Dire Maul.

Try picking up either a Taskmaster Axe or Smite's Mighty Hammer, it should help a bunch. Though, I think there's a pally quest for a weapon at lv 20ish.

Well, you're below 20, so you're going to replace every last piece of armor you're wearing. Don't fret too much about having the best.

Heh, before you go traipsing off all over the planet, a quick heads-up: there's this wonderful thing in Stormwind called the Deeprun Tram. The entrance is in the dwarven district. It's a subway that runs from Stormwind to Ironforge. The only other way to get from Stormwind to Ironforge (besides griffon) is through some rather nasty L40-55 zones. If you don't feel like making the long trip to the Exodar, it's not imperative. The big reason to do it is that the quests rewards are better than the other starter zones, and the quests are better laid out in clusters for convenient quest chaining. (Quest chaining: doing a half dozen quests at once.) If you like Westfall, stay. Deadmines is the must-do instance at levels 17-20, and I don't think your goal ATM is max XP/hr.

I previously played on Archimonde, a day 1 PvP server. I'd come hang out w/ you on Exodar, but reinstall, repatch, resubscribe... sounds like a LOT of work. If I'm going to all that trouble, I'm reinstalling FFXI first. ^_^

Believe it or not, I've decided to pick up the 10 day trial. I doubt I'll play past the 10 days, but what the hell, it's free, why not? I remember when I first heard about the WoW game when it was still being developed, I swore I would get it as quickly as possible. Before it was released, I picked up FFXI, played for a while, and went through some personal issues. I realized that these games were doing something to me that I didn't like so that's why I swore off WoW...at least while I was playing FFXI. Anyway, I'm now more of just a casual gamer these days so I figure it can't hurt me now, and so why not give it a shot? Like I said, it's free, so why not? Heh.

Anyway, I'll jump on the Exodar server when I'm done downloading.

Cool. The character I've spent the most time on is Merrin (human Paladin). Level 15 now. I have lower level characters of other races, however. Let me know what you choose.
