I'm taking an introductory chemistry class for non-science majors (I'm an IT major). It was either that or a higher level physics class (I have no experience with either chemistry or physics) for a "problem solving selective" I need.

I HATE IT. The quizzes and the such have been fine so far, but stick me in the lab, and I'm doomed. I'm a complete klutz, and not knowing a damned thing about how to set various things up renders me completely useless. Identifying unknowns approaches guesswork after I take different measurements; my best friend is taking the class with me and we have the honor of being the last to finish every lab.

IHATEITIHATEIT I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATEI ITEITHATHAITHE HATE

this post may have something to do with having my lab today. thursdays are the worst, class from 830-945, 1-350, and 530-1000.

Today we separated the components of a mixture.

Sample weight was 2.55g.

I separate the parts of it (cracking a beaker in the process) and the three different things add up to be about 4g.

WHY DO I FAIL AT CHEMISTRY.

Ive had a quick intro course to "Intro to Organic Chemistry". I excelled at the course, and the instructor took some time and taught me some of the harder aspects of the course. Even Ive no plan to major in it, It is a good chance it will be an elective for me =D

My suggestion is to ask the teacher for help after or before class. Another method I suggest is going slowly- the faster you work, the more likely you are to trip up.

It's been my experience that most labs fail, because most teachers fail at designing labs, and most students fail at understanding the lab. Students simply regard them as a series of annoying tasks they have to do, and do not connect them properly to the course material at hand. That's because most teachers do not design labs to be goal oriented, and instead make them task oriented.

It'd be impossible for me to actually work quickly. Haha. I follow the steps to the best of my ability given my knowledge of wtf I'm doing. And I'm hesitant to ask the instructor questions when he states the day before lab that he's wanting to finish tomorrow's lab as quickly as possible because he has to go kill some people.
